Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy are actually mainstay treatments for children with sleep apnea—generally not for adults.

In those children, a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy can provide dramatic improvements in daytime alertness and behavior.

Palatal stiffening procedures involve palate implants, chemical injections or radio-frequency treatments, all done as office procedures. Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, removal of enlarged tonsils and adenoids, is usually done as an outpatient surgery under general anesthesia.
