Nursing homes and elderly care facilities have doubled between 2019 and 2024, according to authorities, as China deals with a growing ageing population.

South Korea is an ageing society, where one in five people are at least 65 years old.

Industry leaders have said tens of thousands of new recruits will be needed to deliver the government's target, with the sector facing a skills shortage and ageing workforce.

Similarly to the situation in Jamaica, it objects to the proposed rules against ageing overseas.

"Every month, about 1% of their bone and muscles are going to wither away – it's accelerated ageing," Prof Bailey says.
