Based on data collected by Waymo, its driverless vehicles had 81% fewer airbag deployment crashes, 78% fewer injury-causing crashes and 62% fewer police-reported crashes than traditional vehicles driving the same distance.

Autoliv, a Swedish auto supplier, tested production lines at its new airbag factory slated to open in October.

The company says its driverless system is "better than humans at avoiding crashes that result in injuries, airbag deployments, and police reports".

Based on data collected by Waymo, their driverless vehicles had 81% fewer airbag deployment crashes, 78% fewer injury-causing crashes and 62% fewer police-reported crashes than traditional vehicles driving the same distance.

Data from the BMW showed the throttle was "fully open" for four-and-a-half seconds before the collision and "remained fully open until the deployment of the airbag", with no brakes applied.
