Williams is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and the author of a previous book, “Attrib.,” a collection of word-besotted short stories.

Eley Williams, whose short story collection Attrib won the Republic of Consciousness and James Tait Black prizes for fiction last year, sometimes writes in the same room as her partner, the author Nell Stevens.

Her work is a series of experimental short stories - using puns, forgotten words and hidden meanings - under the title Attrib. and Other Stories.

Eley Williams Small presses are making a big noise at the moment, and that’s down to such brilliant books as Attrib. and Other Stories, which took the Republic of Consciousness Prize for Small Presses this month.
