A lawsuit recently filed by CCR, the American Civil Liberties Union and other groups accuses the government of preventing immigrants detained at Guantánamo Bay from "accessing legal assistance to understand their rights and to challenge their transfer and detention or conditions of confinement."

One good example is the GOP’s obeisance to Concealed Carry Reciprocity, or CCR, a proposal that would override state gun laws and impose the permissive regimes of states like Texas—which allow people to carry concealed firearms without a permit—on the rest of the country.

It’s nutso gun-cult stuff that Democrats could be hammering away at every day, especially since 169 House Republicans have already signed on as sponsors of a CCR bill.

Wells Dixon, a CCR attorney who represented Khan, described that letter as “a wake-up call” to the U.S. government that illustrated it would be “unlikely if not impossible” for government prosecutors to obtain a death sentence for Guantánamo prisoners charged in 9/11.
