- A nineteenth-century English author. His works include A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, and numerous other novels . He created many memorable characters , including Bob Cratchit, Fagin , Jacob Marley, Samuel Pickwick , Ebenezer Scrooge , and Tiny Tim . Dickens, a man of keen social conscience, used his books to portray the suffering of the working class at the time of the Industrial Revolution .
