Justin Kempson, sales and innovation director at Huntingdon packaging company Charpak, says he can see the cost of living crisis affecting business.

The babies experience the same movements as they do when they are in the womb and are comforted by the beating of the mother’s heart, said Nathalie Charpak, a French pediatrician and one of the founders of Colombia’s Kangaroo Foundation.

Charpak’s invention — a gas-filled box in which amplifiers boosted the signals detected by each wire — allowed for a 1,000-fold increase in detection rate.

Accordingly, he said, Dr. Charpak measured the infinitesimal electric impulses that particles leave as they race through one of his devices.

The family moved to Paris in 1932 when Dr. Charpak was 7.
