The community planned a remembrance Sunday along Duval Street, home to some of Key West’s most well-known eateries and music venues, including the Chart Room, a dive bar where Buffett sang early in his career.

The Pinnacle left Seattle on Jan. 5, traveling more than 2,000 miles during a 9-day voyage to reach the Aleutian port of Dutch Harbor, where the crew loaded water and other supplies but, to keep COVID-19 at bay, forfeited the traditional dinners at The Chart Room.

A couple of years ago, some angry parents called for a boycott of the Chart Room, a coffee shop in Devon that had a no-kids-under-12 policy.

A key to the doomed vessel's chart room sold to a collector from Texas for £78,000, while a drowned steward's badge sold for £57,000.

Police say 76-year-old Connie Birkenmeier of Bar Harbor was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday outside the Chart Room Restaurant.
