Chrissie Everett-Hickson, 21, suffered brain damage when Kain Tailby attacked her in the early hours of 18 February 2024 and died in hospital five days later.

The London-born James began his music career in the proto-punk band London SS, which featured future members of the Clash and Generation X. He soon met another local band, Masters of the Backside, which featured future Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde, vocalist Dave Vanian, bassist Captain Sensible and drummer Rat Scabies.

Actress Tracy-Ann Oberman also returned to the series in 2024, with her character Chrissie Watts reappearing after nearly two decades away.

In addition to his gigs as a musician, Dunlap worked as a cab driver and as a janitor at Minneapolis’ storied First Avenue nightclub, where the Replacements played during the band’s famously rowdy come-up and where Dunlap met his wife, Chrissie, who was a talent booker at the club.

The Pretenders star Chrissie Hynde, who wrote and released the original song in 1994, endorsed the new recording.
