The ultimate version of the spending plan — the state’s main policy document — will be hashed out in coming days by House and Senate conferees.

The conferees have been meeting to work out a compromise after the two chambers passed competing versions of the spending plan.

Congress is ordering the Pentagon to conduct a major study of a U.S. war with China around 2030 under the draft of a compromise defense authorization bill approved by House and Senate conferees this week.

Deeds, who is among the small circle of budget conferees involved in negotiations, declined to share a copy, deferring to Sen. Janet Howell and Sen. George Barker, co-chairs of the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee.
