It jumped 0.7% on Thursday - its best day since July - pushing the yen back down toward the key 150.00 per dollar area.

Japanese authorities seem less willing to intervene to support than they were last year when the yen was at these levels, but a further decline toward the 150 per dollar area could change their thinking.

Currency markets are also on intervention watch from Japanese authorities, with the yen falling through the 145 per dollar area and anchored around its weakest level against the euro since 2008.
