Since Florida rests on a rock layer of mostly sedimentary limestone and dolostone, the state is prime acreage for these sudden cavities.

The state sits over carbonate rock made of mostly limestone and dolostone.

Most of these tracks end behind large boulders of dolostone or syenite, some however start and end without an apparent object nearby.

The association of caves and water seems obvious, as many caves are in fact formed by dissolution of rocks like lime- and dolostone by water.
