Crews responded to a quickly spreading brush fire on Little Mountain Drive and West Edgehill Road around 2 p.m., according to the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District.

The Edgehill fire, which was limited to 54 acres, still forced many residents to evacuate and destroyed several homes, according to San Bernardino Fire spokesperson Eric Sherwin.

The Edgehill fire erupted in the 3300 block of Beverly Drive on Little Mountain about 2:40 p.m., according to San Bernardino County fire officials, who called for 10 additional engines immediately when they arrived and reported at the time that the fire had already burned five acres.

An evacuation order has been issued for all residents south of Ridge Line Drive and north of Edgehill Road, west to and including Beverly Drive, and east to Circle Road.

Officers spotted the car a short time later and followed it to the Edgehill area south of downtown, where it crashed.
