A 16-year-old boy was arrested Friday on suspicion of running over and killing a man who was trying to stop shoplifters at his brother’s store in South El Monte early this month, authorities said.

A jury has awarded $48 million to six former students of a South El Monte elementary school who were sexually abused by a longtime teacher.

She was broke, and trying to raise a baby, while working as a shill at a dice-and-poker house in El Monte.
