Pasadena Playhouse celebrated its 100th birthday Saturday night by announcing the company has regained ownership of its landmark Elmer Grey building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Formerly controlled by the MS-13 gang, it was a stronghold of one of El Salvador's most powerful criminals – Elmer Canales Rivera, aka "Crook", who is now in prison in the US.

Chances are, you are living in the climate equivalent of one of those popsicle-stick houses held together by Elmer’s Glue and adolescent exuberance.

Historic landmarks by the likes of Myron Hunt and Elmer Grey and a noted Midcentury retreat by architect Ray Kappe have been lost.

Zane Grey Estate, Altadena: This home, with elements of Spanish, Mission and Mediterranean Revival design on 1.2 acres west of Lake Avenue, was built by architects Myron Hunt and Elmer Grey in 1907 for Chicago business machine manufacturer Arthur Herbert Woodward.
