The Crew’s new stadium, which opened in 1999, looked like a hunk of metal that lived up to its derisive nickname, “The Erector Set.”

“It comes apart like a big erector set.”

“There was a little boy across the aisle from me, and he had an Erector Set. I wanted to play with an Erector Set so badly, I can’t even tell you. But the nurses said ‘No, we can give you a doll to play with.’”

In his free time, Calleia built Meccano erector set models and made models of military equipment, bridges and machinery.

Their outfield is an Erector Set.
