She married Albert F. Sheehy in 1960 and moved to Rochester, N.Y., where he attended medical school and she worked as a fashion coordinator at McCurdy’s department store, decorating windows.

In the late 1980s, when Mr. Hayman had become the unofficial grandmaster of Beverly Hills retailing, he became fashion coordinator for the Academy Awards.

“The designers didn’t have the connections. They didn’t know how to get to the stars on their own,” said Patty Fox, a former fashion director for Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills who served as Mr. Hayman’s deputy fashion coordinator for the project in the early 1990s.
