First recorded in 1965–70; vocalization of Arabic Ḥ, abbreviation of Ḥarakat al-Taḥrīr al-Waṭanī al-󾱱ṭīn “Palestinian National Liberation Movement,” from ḥa첹, form of ḥa첹 “movement” + ٲḥrī “liberation” + ɲṭaī “national” + 󾱱ṭīn Palestine ( def ); coined by reversing the elements and shortening ḤT¹ to form as a pun on ڲḥ “opening, victory”
