A fez owned by comedian and magician Tommy Cooper has sold at auction for £7,000 - more than twice its estimate.

But soon he was very much the Doctor, bow tie, fez and all.

The V&A museum in London has lent 28 items including Tommy Cooper's trademark fez and other props, and Sooty and Sweep puppets from the classic children's show.

We have photos of my male ancestors wearing the fez and the Ottoman military uniform, but women were rarely photographed.

Capped with a fez, speaking some sort of French patois, Mitchell brings his own campy aura to the movie, including the portentous punchline: “Choice is a Western concept.”
