“Our leaning here is that this form factor has done well,” Bowser said, noting this wasn’t the time for Nintendo to throw consumers a curve like, say, it did with the motion control-centered Wii in 2006.

"For making an actual product, you would need to package it into a usable form factor," he explains.

"Judging by the success of the Switch, we expect the new device to be a similar form factor and to continue the legacy of the original product," he said.

This form factor is roughly 100 times smaller than its amplifier counterpart, making it extremely attractive as a measurement device.

"This breakthrough in theory established the relationship between the measurement of deeply virtual Compton scattering to the gravitational form factor. And we were able to use that for the first time and extract the pressure that we did in the Nature paper in 2018, and now the normal force and the shear force," Burkert explained.
