Due to its unusual climate, the island is rich in biodiversity, serving as a breeding site for southern elephant and sub- Antarctic fur seals.

The territory is home to precious colonies of King Emperor penguins and millions of elephant and fur seals.

And those fish bring in predators, such as sea lions, dolphins, fur seals, birds and other fish that then proceed to feast on these “toxic bullets.”
