JSO has said its last protest – to be held at the end of April – will mark "the end of soup on Van Goghs, cornstarch on Stonehenge and slow marching in the streets".

In Granada Hills, a few dozen people protested this week outside of Van Gogh Elementary, a school about a mile away from Sunshine Canyon Landfill.

For decades, masterpieces by the likes of Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock have been kept in the basement of a museum in Iran's capital Tehran, shrouded in mystery.

Fefferman said he recently pulled his son out of Van Gogh Elementary School due to the stench and pollution, which sometimes became so unbearable that school officials canceled recess.

Also in the evacuation zone is the Getty Center, a hilltop museum that holds more than 125,000 artworks, including masterpieces by Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Rubens, Monet and Degas.
