On Thursday and Friday morning south-westerly winds meant the clouds appeared to the north-east of the Grampians, Highlands and Pennines.

Communities around the Grampians, in Victoria, have been evacuated amid warnings from authorities that conditions there in the days ahead could be the worst since Australia's most severe fire season on record, the so-called "Black Summer" of 2019-20.

Mary Ann Brown, who lives on the southern edge of the Grampians National Park, told the ABC that her community are on edge heading into the holidays.

The Grampians, North York Moors and parts of the Pennines could see another 2 to 5cm fall through the day.

BBC Weather said snow could be an issue across the north of the Pennines and across parts of Scotland, with up to 20cm of snow possible in the Grampians and between two and 10cm elsewhere.
