The Metropolitan Opera has closed most of its concession areas, but its bar in the airiest section of the Grand Tier is now open, along with its restaurant.

Installed on the grand tier landings, they comprise chorus lines of imposing standing figures pieced together from thousands of fragments of colorful ceramics, mirror and branded wood, across which the artist has painted improvisationally in oil stick, wax and spray enamel.

London’s Royal Opera House removed his name from the building’s atrium, the Metropolitan Opera took his name off its grand tier and the Salzburg Festival in Austria stripped his picture from its programs.

The Metropolitan Opera took the name of one prominent benefactor, the investor Alberto W. Vilar, off its grand tier in 2003 after some promised pledges failed to materialize; he was later convicted of fraud.

Currently, there’s an installation by Brown that’s been up since the start of last season — two large paintings on the Grand Tier and Dress Circle, called “Triumph of the Vanities I and II” — plus some other works by Brown scattered around the house.
