Unlike Manet, Degas, Renoir and Cassatt, Gustave Caillebotte mostly painted men rather than women — men at work, men in repose, even naked men getting out of the bath.

Whether French Impressionist painter Gustave Caillebotte was gay is not known, although it is frequently noted that he never married.

“Gustave Caillebotte: Painting Men” fixes that.

“When we were at home, we were free, we had a good life,” Juliana’s mother, Baby Gustave, recalled.

“I loved everything about him. He bathed me, cooked for me and went to the market for me,” Gustave said, explaining that she suffers from debilitating asthma attacks.
