The days of traffic jams in Ilion every afternoon when day shifts let out are long gone.

“RemArms, the current version of Remington Arms, will close its Ilion facility in early March, according to a letter the company sent union officials,” noted a report from the Utica Observer-Dispatch newspaper.

An Ilion, New York, gun plant that started in 1828 is set to close.

Phil Smith, a spokesperson for the United Mine Workers of America, which represents some workers at a factory in Ilion, said the union had no information about whether workers in New York would be affected.
