The party line, if pulled over by the police is that we're "just a group of friends running from Iquique to San Pedro de Atacama".

It's 4am in late November in the Chilean beach city of Iquique.

Demonstrators marched through the city of Iquique waving Chilean flags and demanding the expulsion of what they called foreign criminals.

Photos showed protesters, many carrying Chilean flags, breaking up tent structures and bedding in the northern city of Iquique and putting it into a big pile, an echo of angry protests in September last year when camps were burned.

Some of the migrants walk further after crossing the border and make it to the city of Iquique.
