Parts of Maine along the Androscoggin and Kennebec rivers were hit especially hard.

The Kennebec River, which runs through Augusta, and the Sandy, Swift, Carrabassett and Androscoggin rivers were all seeing higher water levels than typical, leading to damage and closures, the Maine Department of Transportation said.

The Kennebec River at Augusta was at 20 feet and still rising.

Officers in Sagadahoc County and Kennebec County then tried to contact Card on 16 September, less than six weeks before the deadly shooting rampage in Lewiston, but were unable to find him at his home.

Authorities launched a multistate search on land and water, including patrols along the Kennebec River.
