Over the last 16 years, more than three dozen artists have spent time in the space, including installation artist Joel Kyack and conceptualist Lisa Anne Auerbach.

In a particularly dramatic installation, “The Dirty Poke Ain't No Joke,” artist Joel Kyack -- working in the basement bowling alley where the climactic scene from “There Will Be Blood” was filmed -- gave real tattoos of international currency symbols to a few guests, including my date.

Perhaps the most intriguing of the interventions was Joel Kyack’s “The Dirty Poke Ain’t No Joke,” described in the checklist of works as “performance, continuous,” which was essentially the artist dispensing honest-to-goodness tattoos in the billiards room of the mansion, a pool cue’s distance away from the bowling alley where a key murder scene in “There Will Be Blood” was filmed.

Mr. Kyack, for instance, plans to create a country-fair game trailer, while Ms. Echakhch will turn a patch of grass into a “three-dimensional still life” with hundreds of the tumbleweeds more commonly found in the American southwest, and Ms. Overton plans to install flexible mirrors among the trees.
