Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been sent to tackle the blaze, the LFB said.

The LFB said it had received nearly 200 calls about the fire.

"This is a highly visible and significant incident, and our firefighters are working tirelessly in challenging conditions to bring the fire under control as swiftly as possible," said LFB Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulborne.

LFB said two fire engines and about 10 firefighters from Dowgate and Lambeth fire stations have been called to the scene.

LFB says there were 24 fires at Arnold's Field last year alone, some lasting for days, particularly in the summer, and residents had to keep their windows closed.
