A roving, sumptuous narrative entrenched in the labyrinthine relationships of a small southern Italian town, “My Brilliant Friend” follows Lila and Elena, schoolgirls growing up in postwar Naples.

Elena holds her headstrong, intellectually gifted friend Lila in reverent admiration, but the girls’ paths diverge when Lila, who cannot afford to continue her education, marries an abusive man, while Elena goes to university and becomes a writer.

Unlike last season’s Lincoln Center Theater revival, directed by Lila Neugebauer, this production has a stylistic sure-footedness.

Gaiman's denial follows an extensive report by Lila Shapiro that includes the testimonies of eight women accusing Gaiman of sexual abuse and assault — some of which already shared their alleged experiences with Gaiman on the podcast, "Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman" last year.
