In the space sector, Japan will provide and operate a "pressurised lunar rover", while the US will allow two Japanese astronauts to take part in Nasa's Artemis missions and - eventually - allow a Japanese astronaut to become the first non-American to land on the moon.

Last year, China’s Chang’e-4 mission landed a lunar rover on the far side of the moon – something that had never been done before.

Osinski also serves as principal investigator and scientific lead on Canada's first lunar rover, which is being designed and built by Canadensys Aerospace.

For 75 hours, the astronauts moonwalked in their spacesuits and rode in a lunar rover, with humanity watching on television sets 240,000 miles away.

The other homesteaders, mostly engineers and technicians, seemed to enjoy outings in the lunar rover.
