The New York fern, around long before there was a New York or even an Old York, looks like it has jumped off a fossilized stone.

Two related ferns will colonize nicely in such places — the hay-scented fern and the New York fern.

The New York fern, when of low stature, is one of the many bits of growing carpet of rich cool woods.

In some respects it is also like the New York fern, and is in fact intermediate between the two.
