The remains of the saint are preserved beneath the altar, in a splendid sarcophagus of oriental alabaster, adorned with a leopard's head.

It is supported by four pillars of Oriental alabaster, presented by Mehemet Ali, pasha of Egypt.

Beneath is the shrine of St. Agnes surmounted by her statue, an antique of oriental alabaster, with modern head, and hands of gilt bronze.

The pavement of this room was of oriental alabaster, of which fragments remain.

It is sometimes distinguished as oriental alabaster.
