Attempts to prolong the life in its current form of a company laid low by years of under-investment, overgenerous pay and dividends, poor regulation and changing climate may be doomed.

The leading economic research group argues that the current system gives overgenerous tax breaks to those with the biggest pensions and the biggest contributions from employers.

It said while the evidence was limited it was "difficult to conclude that overgenerous schemes had a significant impact on inflation in late 2021".

In Washington, lawmakers have seized on the matter for political purposes, with Republicans complaining that the labor supply issues are the direct result of overgenerous stimulus measures passed by Democrats earlier this year.

Florida is not known for being overgenerous in funding needed social services on the local level.
