The shingle he carried was made by United Solar Ovonic, a subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices, which filed for bankruptcy and went out of business in 2012.

The company said that as part of the bankruptcy plan it intends to sell its United Solar Ovonic unit, known as Uni-Solar, and other assets, including its 39% stake in Ovonyx, a company working on phase-change randon access memory chips.

The company said that with the sale of Ovonic Battery it has $145 million in unrestricted cash and short-term investments.

In July, ECD said it was trying to sell its Ovonic Battery Co. subsidiary to raise money it could plow into its solar business.

The ovonic battery unit develops battery technologies for consumer, stationary and vehicle applications.
