Phil Foden's struggles for England last week were a reminder of how last season's PFA and FWA Player of the Year has been a shadow of his usual self all campaign, but he is not the only City player to have been well below his best.

The England full-back was named in the PFA team of the season for the third time at the end of that campaign and in July 2023 was named Liverpool vice-captain.

The PFA said it invested more than £1m in its brain health fund after a group of 30 former footballers and their families launched legal action in 2022 against football's governing bodies, claiming they failed to protect them from brain injuries.

According to the PFA, its fund aims to provide industry-wide support to players living with dementia and other neurodegenerative conditions.

His only goal this season, and his first since November 2023, was in the draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers in October - a far cry from the form that shot him to prominence in the 2022-23 campaign and led to him being nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year.
