The initiatives include cocoa farming integrated with trees; managed fishing of pirarucu, a giant freshwater fish, and support for the Forest Peoples Connection, which has been installing Starlink internet units donated by Elon Musk´s SpaceX in remote areas, such as Indigenous communities.

One of the main goals is to stimulate the so-called bio-economy, such as the managed fishing of pirarucu, Amazon’s largest fish, and acai production, as an alternative to cattle-raising, which is responsible for most of deforestation.

They expect to earn that in the near future by exporting pirarucu meat.

From Medio Jurua and other regions, the pirarucu leather must travel several thousand miles by boat to Belem, where it is loaded onto trucks for another long journey to Nova Kaeru headquarters, a multiday trip.

The pirarucu leather first made inroads in Texas, where it is used in cowboy boots.
