Known as “Cebollitas,” or the Little Onions, they were relegated in 1988 and had not returned until Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Portoviejo.

Falconi was born in Portoviejo, Ecuador, but moved to the United States when she was a toddler and grew up in New York, on 207th Street in Manhattan.

Much of the damage was in Manabí Province and the city of Manta, not far from Portoviejo.

In April, the city and nearby Portoviejo and Manta suffered an earthquake that killed more than 660 people and injured at least 10,000.
