Balmoral has been one of the royal family’s residences since 1852, when the estate and its original castle were bought by Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband.

This she did share with Queen Victoria, who held séances, yearning for a little chat with her beloved ectoplasmic late husband, the sainted Prince Albert.

The Aberdeenshire residence has been handed down through generations of royals after being bought for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852.

The museum was the pet project of Prince Albert, consort to Queen Victoria, who had seen firsthand that British manufactured goods were not always top of the class.
