It said there were "numerous localised spots of corrosion" in the service pipe leading to Number 3 Gorse Park but there would be no prosecutions - a conclusion that some residents described as a "kick in the teeth".

The car struck two vehicles and a service pipe on Stoneleigh Road, Kenilworth before coming to a halt.

Cadent confirmed one property was affected by the damage to the service pipe, and engineers were back on site to complete a repair.

"It only takes a half an egg cup of water to block a service pipe," she said.

The HSE, which confirmed its investigation into the Gorse Park explosion had now been concluded, said it was not realistic to expect to be able to prove beyond reasonable doubt who was responsible for causing the damage to the service pipe.
