And who might the lexicographers have had in mind a month ago when they reported that they added back to the dictionary the word “snollygoster, ‘a shrewd & unprincipled person, especially an unprincipled politician’ ”?

Imagine my delight yesterday when I caught sight of 'snollygoster', my adopted rare word from Save The 51�Թ�s, in the Fiver – used in a perfectly good sentence no less.

I believe that the word "snollygoster" is a degeneration of this expression .

A Georgia editor kindly explains that 'a snollygoster is a fellow who wants office regardless of party, platform or principles and who, whenever he wins, gets there by the sheer force of monumental talknothical assumnacy.'
