Generally, breeders nominate their stallions every breeding season for about the cost of their stud fee.

His retirement home has been picked out, his stud fee has been set and he’s in the relatively small club of thoroughbreds with multiple Breeders’ Cup race victories including last year’s Classic.

That horse was Medina Spirit, a $35,000 Florida-bred purchase sired by Protonico, whose stud fee was only $5,000.
