The California Teachers Assn. and other labor unions spent millions to help get Thurmond elected to the nonpartisan superintendency seat five years ago.

The project was overseen by the Special Superintendency for archaeology in Rome, part of Italy’s Ministry of Culture.

"There is not one single clue or document that involved Mr. Guillermo Lasso in what was just declassified from the Superintendency of Companies," Pachakutik party legislator Ricardo Vanegas told journalists.

"We have unanimously approved both the lifting of the classification of the information from the Superintendency of Companies - the box was opened in our presence - and the lifting of the classification of the logs from the presidency," Pachakutik party lawmaker Darwin Pereira told journalists.

The fundamental work of his superintendency may be taking place largely behind closed doors.
