Cook and TV presenter Thomasina Miers welcomed the move as "bold" but the ban has prompted criticism from others.

The film goes on some fertile philosophical tangents, as Martha and Thomasina debate their responsibilities to the present and to the future — the latter of which changes in dramatic ways after the ladies start meddling in the war.

A daughter from his first marriage, Thomasina, died of cancer in 1993.

In addition to Nigella, the couple had three other children — Dominic, who became a prominent journalist; Thomasina and Horatia — before their divorce in 1980.
