Outbreaks among hundreds of workers at German meat processing plants, such as at ��ö�ԲԾ���� in Gütersloh last June, shocked Germans and led to a change in the law, says Jenny Hill.

To some, Tonnies’ return is the only way out of Schalke’s financial mess.

Its longstanding chairman, Clemens ��ö�ԲԾ���� — one of Germany’s richest but least popular men, and for years the apparent guarantor for Schalke’s spending habit — was forced to step down, first temporarily after making a series of racially-charged remarks and then permanently, after a coronavirus outbreak at one of his meat-processing plants.

Officials in North Rhine-Westphalia brought back restrictions around Gütersloh in June after more than 1,500 ��ö�ԲԾ���� plant workers tested positive.

Mr Adenauer added, however, that the ruling had no effect on the ��ö�ԲԾ���� plant itself, which remains shut until at least 17 July.
