A walk along the Gabrielino Trail with consulting arborist Alison Lancaster reveals a wealth of information about the trees of Los Angeles, including white alders, Torrey pines and coast live oaks.

After hosing off and changing into clean clothes, the kids, ages 2-5, hike through five acres of redwoods and Torrey pines, climb trees, read books and identify insects with their teachers.

The walk around the foundation’s grounds will include information about planting, pruning, watering, pests and diseases of sycamore, Torrey pine, palo verde, Catalina ironwood and other native trees.

List thinks his daughter might be interested in trophies because she believes they contain candy, but the Farmers trophy is a replica of the endangered Torrey pine tree.

Clearing out rows of ornamental trees, with the assistance and support of superintendent Dennis Fowler, allows the eye to focus on the attractive remaining eucalyptus, melaleuca and Torrey pines.
