The Vermonter and New Yorker each brought their pro-worker stump speeches to the southwestern purple states on Thursday, day one of a three-day tour.

Some Vermonters said it was the worst natural disaster to hit the state since a 1927 flood killed dozens of people.

“Now, more than ever, we need everyday Vermonters to make their voices heard and get involved,” he said.

“We want to make sure that all Vermonters are paying their fair share.”

More than a fifth of Vermonters are 65 or older, and more than 35 percent are over 54, the age at which Americans typically begin to exit the work force.
