Vickers added that "nationalisation on a temporary basis" would "provide an opportunity to rebuild the industry, hopefully secure new private sector involvement and convince the customers—most notably Network Rail, which gets 95% of its rail track from the Scunthorpe works—that supply will continue."

She was responding to an urgent question in the House of Commons from the Conservative MP Martin Vickers, who raised concerns that orders were not being made to secure the raw materials needed to keep the furnaces going.

Vickers, whose constituency of Brigg and Immingham borders Scunthorpe, said Jingye was "not involved in meaningful negotiations" and it was "very obvious" that the company had cancelled orders for raw materials.

Martin Vickers, the Conservative MP for Brigg and Immingham, said: "Although I would not want to advocate this, will the government consider nationalisation of the industry as a last resort?"

The exhibition features the RAF's V-bombers, the Vickers, Valiant and Vulcan, some of which are suspended from the ceiling.
