In early 1957, Edie Millpuddie and her family were traversing the Great Victoria Desert plains.

Foggerdy had been missing since Wednesday when he left Shooter’s Shack campsite on the edge of the Great Victoria Desert, 1,120km east of Perth.

The Pintupi Nine may not have been the very last to give up a traditional life in the outback - in October 1986 a nomadic group of seven reportedly walked out of the Great Victoria Desert - it is unclear how aware they were of modern society.

This took them to Tjuntjuntjara, a tiny community in Western Australia's Great Victoria Desert, roughly halfway between Adelaide and Perth.

So did the mansion in Kirribilli, the ranch down in Canberra, the whistle-stop pub on the Indian Pacific line somewhere out in the Great Victoria Desert.
